Tracking Your Way To More Sales

How do we keep track of our visitors? Most people use a hit counter
on their site, but this doesn't give all the information you need
if you are marketing a product or service. What can I do, you ask?
Where can I go to find the tools I need to create a marketing
strategy based on who is visiting my website? The answer is simple,
you need tracking software that will tell you everything you need to
know to create a marketing plan that will entice visitors to stay
and buy something. In today's NetDummy we have tried to provide you
with some good software and CGI Scripts to help you keep track of
who is visiting your site and what their interests are.
We hope that you find this newsletter interesting and useful.

You know you are from the Bay Area when…
- You make $100,000 a year, yet still can't find a place to live.
- Your commute time is 45 minutes and you live 8 miles away from
work.
- You stop asking how much things cost but, ask "How long will it
take?"
- Two-thirds of the people you know are from Boston or New York,
but you are living in PST.
- You know vast differences between Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese,
Japanese, Cantonese, and Korean food.
- Your home computer contains mostly hardware/software that is not
on the consumer market yet.
- You go to "The City" on weekends but don't live there because you
like your car.
- You think that "I'm going to Fry's" is an acceptable excuse to leave
the office for a while, and your boss does too.
- Yopu lost your alarm clock. You'll get to work when you get there.
- You go to an industrial-heavy-metal bar and see two guys get into a
fight over what flavor of UNIX is better.
- You own more than 10 articles of clothing that have hardware/software
companies printed on them. Bonus for embroidered stuff.
- You know where Woz Way, Resistor Ave, and Floppy Dr. are located.
- You know who Woz is.
- You know 280 North runs West, and 680 North runs East.
- Even though Microsoft employs quite a few programmers in the Bay
Area, they only work on Powerpoint, and the company is still the
embodiment of Satan.
- Even if their stock IS worth more than yours.
- You see a billboard that says "FGPA2ASIC" and aren't fazed
- You need the updated Diamond Monster 3D drivers, you just
walk across the street.
- You have more bandwidth in your apartment or condo than most
major universities.
- You scan yardsales for back issues of "Dr. Dobbs."
- Your favorite computer reseller speaks only Cantonese.
- Your workplace vending machines dispense "100% natural twig-bars" right next to Jolt cola and Instant Espresso mix.
- No one brings radios into work - they just use RealAudio and
listen to thedj.com, rebelradio.com, or other out of state
stations.

Tracking Software
- WebLog Manager Pro
WebLog Manager is a Website visitor tracking tool that gathers
intelligence on visitors that no other tool offers. WebLog Manager
is a combination Windows95 software and a CGI script that helps site
owners better understand Web Site visitors.
- SnappyTrax
SnappyTrax is easy to use and you can customize the way you want to
look at your traffic. With SnappyTrax you can view, print, chart and
even plot your site traffic to a world map. SnappyTrax version 2.0
features standard reports in html format that can be distributed to
others by email and published to the web for viewing by others.
- SuperStats
SuperStats offers the most powerful site tracking available on the
web. Featuring real-time tracking and reporting, SuperStats gives
you important information about your site traffic, your web audience
and your placement on leading search engines.
- OpenWebScope
OpenWebScope is a web statistics program which sorts through all of
the invisible information that users leave behind when visiting a
website. It's cut and dry - allowing you a visual statistical
representation of the most valuable thing on your site - user
interaction.
- EasyStat
The EasyStat application is a "counter" like application. It counts
the number of visitors to your site, gets all information available
about them and displays it in an elegant way. EasyStat does its
magic through an image that is displayed somewhere on your page
which can also provide a quick link to the statistics display.
- CountLink
Count Link allows tracking of which links are clicked in your
website. The user clicks a link, the script counts it in a log file,
and then autoforwards to the link that is specified.
CGI Scripts
- Clickthru!
Clickthru! is a full-feature tracking program written for website
administrators to easily setup and manage click-throughs generated
by their network of affiliates. It provides a weekly and monthly
click-through tracking system, IP-address blocking and real-time
account status checking.
- Site Tracker
This is full site tracking program. It gives you the option to hide
or show the amount of counts. It even comes with an admin section to
review stats.
- AXS Site Tracking System
This is an access log script which creates graphs of usage. Logs both
URLs used to get to your site and URLs used to leave your site, as
well as visitor server, IP#, browser, document viewed, and time. The
script allows WHOIS queries on the visitor's server and reverse DNS
lookups of their IP address.
- Colored Scripts: Hit Statistics
Colored Scripts is a hit tracking utility on the brink of HTML and
Javascript, using CGI. Accesses are grouped by countries, continents,
accessed pages, referrers, and software used. Comfortable graphic
interface.
