Goto's Search-in-a-box program (SIB), introduced in November of 1999, was one of the first search affiliate programs on the Web to pay sites for traffic.

The SIB program is a free service and allows anyone with minimal site development skills to add GoTo's Web search to their site.

With SIB, affiliate's add a search box (or search boxes) to their site by cutting and pasting a small bit of HTML code and pasting it into their existing site.

From this search box, visitors initiate a search by typing a word (or phrase) into the search box and clicking the find button.

Once the search is initiated, the user is sent to GoTo.com, where the search results are displayed.

Because the search-in-a-box affiliates are willing to transfer their users to GoTo.com, these affiliates receive a premium payment of $.03 per click when someone searches.

Goto's Free Integrated Search

GoTo's Integrated Search is one of the only search affiliate programs on the Web that allows businesses to add a search box to their site, and retain the traffic after someone conducts a search. Additionally, this is a free service of which any Web site can take advantage.

The way the program works is simple. After signing up for the program, the affiliate installs search boxes on their site, designating a frame (or frames) where the search results should be delivered. This can either be a frame within the site, or results can be served in a new browser window. Once a visitor types in a word and initiates a search, the results are generated by GoTo.com and delivered to the affiliates Web site.

What this translates to for the affiliate is an increase in pages viewed as well an additional opportunity to service customers.

Moreover, by keeping user on their site (rather than sending user somewhere else to search the Web) affiliates can improve their site metrics.

GoTo pays affiliates $7.50 for every 1000 searches their visitors conduct (as opposed to paying for just the first search).

Additionally, affiliates can earn $3.00 /1000 searches by having GoTo serve banners on top of the search result pages.
